So, as you may or may not know, I have an Associate's degree in both Graphic Design and in Fine Arts. At this point my goal is to get a job in Graphic Design or have enough clients to support being a Freelance Graphic Designer by the time next summer starts. If that doesnt happen, I will probably go for my Bachelor's degree.
I have interviewed a bit so far but so far I've been getting the usual, "You need to get an internship for more real world experience", or "We need to see more real-world projects in your portfolio." After hearing that a few times, I started to work on it.
I finally found an internship with an older woman whom I went to school with. She runs a non-profit organization for kids to be able to ride Motocross that are at-risk or whom don't otherwise have the money. She does all of the racing teams shirts, flyers, awards, etc. and she has acquired a lot of clients, like other racing companies, etc. She could use the extra hands, I could use the internship and work for my portfolio! Its unpaid but we're both getting something out of it.
Today, she told me that she was asked to do a job for a company down the street that sells, ATV's, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, etc. and she just didnt have the time. She told them about me and now I get the $200 job of designing their bi-annual sales brochure! The person who has essentially hired me said that they will use me for their future work and she also has a nonprofit that she could use a designer for (paid!)
All-in-all, I have finally gotten myself some design work and with working 32 hours a week at my retail job, it's kind of a lot. I am totally ready to take it on though and am beyond excited!
Sorry if this is a lot to read, I don't talk much on here and I'd like to have conversations with you guys and let you all get to know me more.
So, what have you guys been up to this week? Any new progressions in life? I'd love to hear about it!
